314 Days In America

I've been back in Finland for a bit over a week now, but let's go back to my last week in America first.
So I spent my last week in Virginia with my host family. I got to meet a lot of their family friends and it was mostly running around to places and meeting people, though one day we got to go to Washington DC, which was great. I saw the Washington monument, the White House, and we had a private tour in the Capitol. After all that sightseeing we went to Georgetown to get some famous cupcakes, known from the tv show DC Cupcakes.

On Monday the 16th I started my way back to Finland. It was hard to say goodbye to my host family, but it was also great to see my own family again after 10 months. I ended up crying in both ends of that trip. The feeling when I saw my family, after all that time and 20 hour of flying, with balloons and flowers welcoming me home was just amazing.

My first week back has been busy. The next day back I already went to the hairdresser and got my hair done. Not all blond anymore haha :) I've also been seeing friends and I spent the Midsummer with my family. At home I've been unpacking and redecorating my room. The old map of Finnish Archipelago had to leave when my new Colorado flag and pictures took its place.

I gotta say that it has been a little weird to be back home. The whole exchange year seems like a dream that I just woke up from. Nothing has really changed, though I hate Finnish music now even more than when I left :D I miss my life in America and it's hard to think that nothing is ever gonna be the same there. Friends are going to Colleges, my host family is taking new exchange students etc. It feels kind of sad to know that next year someone else is going to be sleeping in my bed and using my dresser, and it's not gonna be Heidi's and Maddie's room, it's gonna be Maddie's and someone else's room. Thoug, I have to be grateful for my family and friends for keeping in touch even when I'm here. I just hope it will stay like that for a long time and not just for the first month. So now all my friends there in America, please Skype with me!! :D

Last day in Colorado // Viimeinen päivä Coloradossa

Here we are. My last day in Colorado is tomorrow, Monday. Gladly, I have 7 more days left in America. Colorado has been truly amazing, and much more than I expected. So much to see, and so much to do. I'm gonna miss the mountains the most for sure.
Last week has been all about saying good bye and enjoying the last bit of Colorado that I had time for.

Tässä sitä ollaan. Viimeinen päivä täällä Coloradossa on jo huomenna maanantaina. Onneksi kuitenkin vielä 7 jäljellä täällä Amerikassa. Colorado on ollut aivan mahtava osavaltion, ja paljon enemmän kuin odotin. Täällä on niin paljon tehtävää ja nähtävää, että edes yksi vuosi ei riitä kaikkeen. Yksi asia mitä tulen varmasti kaipaamaan ovat nuo loistokkaat Kalliovuoret. Viime viikko on ollut pitkälti heippojen sanomista ja viimesten Coloradon antimien nauttimista, johon oli aikaa.

On Tuesday we went to the Elitch's in Denver, which is an amusement and water park at the same time. It was a beautiful and warm day, and I had so much fun with my friends! That day was also the last day I saw Isabella… It was hard not to cry when saying good bye, but luckily she lives only a 4 hour flight away in Austria, and there's only a one hour time difference.

Tiistaina mentiin kavereiden kanssa huvipuistoon/vesipuistoon Denveriin. Oli ihan järjettömän nätti päivä ja mielettömän hauskaa. Tiistain oli myös viimeinen päivä jolloin näin itävaltalaista Isabellaa. Onneksi aikaero Suomesta Itävaltaan ei ole tuntia pidempi :)

On Wednesday was the last time for me to see Monica, Greer, and Sara. We went over to Monica's house and watched a movie, and then said good byes. This time I couldn't hold the tears…It's hard to say good bye when you don't know when you will see them again.

Keskiviikkona oli viimeinen päivä nähdä myös muutamaa muuta kaveria. Ensin katsottiin yhdessä leffa, ja sitten itkettiin yhdessä heipat. Vaikeinta tässä on se että kun lähti Suomesta, niin tiesi että tulee näkemään samat ihmiset uudelleen 10 kuukauden päästä, mutta tällä kertaa on vaikea sanoa, milloin näkee seuraavaan kerran.

On Thursday I went to have dinner with Tea. It was great to see her one more time before we both go, but luckily she lives close in Finland, too. It's weird to think that she's the only thing in Finland that combines both of the lives. I know only the American part of her, and it's hard to think that next time we'll see, it's gonna be in a totally different environment.

 Torstaina mentiin Tean kanssa ilalla syömään, ja juteltiin kaikenlaista. Hassua ajatella, että Tea on ainoa asia Suomessa joka yhdistää molemmat elämät, ja ainoa asia joka on sama täällä kuin Suomessa…

On Friday we left camping to the Eleven mile reservoir, which is one of the Colorado state parks. I survived from my first caping trip ever with honor, even though the weather wasn't on our side the whole time, and the bugs around the lake made me go crazy. It was a beautiful place though and we also visited Florissant national park, where they have petrified wood and a huge collection of fossils.

Torstaina lähdettiin camping(en vieläkään oo keksinyt että mikä ois vastaava sana suomeksi… Telttailu ei sovi, eikä retkeily…Ehdotuksia??) yhteen Coloradon osavaltio puistoista. Selvisin muutamasta yöstä kunnialla, vaikka sää ei meidän puolella koko aikaa ollutkaan ja pikku ottimöntiäiset järven ympärillä alkoivat pikkaisen ärsyttämään… Oli kuitenkin tosi hieno paikka, ja käytiin myös pyörähtämässä yhdessä kansallis puistossa, joka on tunnettu sen suuresta fossiili kokoelmasta.

We came back on Sunday morning, thankfully, since on Sunday there was a huge thunderstorm, and a tornado touched the ground close where we had been camping. Also here in Castle Rock there was a tornado warning so we spent about an hour in the basement waiting for the storm to pass. After that we headed to the last YFU orientation, where I got to say good bye for the few last people.

Tultiin takaisin sunnuntai aamuna, onneksi, sillä sunnuntaina täällä oli aika moinen ukkosmyrsky ja tordanokin iski maahan lähellä sitä paikkaa jossa me yövyttiin. Myös täällä oli tornado varoitus ja vietettiinkin tunti alakerrassa odotellen että myrsky menisi ohi, ennen kuin lähdettiin yfun viimeiseen orientaatioon.

Tomorrow night it's my time to leave this beautiful state and fly over to Washington DC and Virginia to spend my last week with my lovely host family. Most likely this will be the last post from this side of the Atlantic. I will come and tell about the last week, but that post will probably be from Finland. Why does time fly by so fast…

 Huomis iltana on mun aika jättää tämä kaunis osavaltion taakse ja lentää kohti itä rannikkoa ja viettää viimeinen viikko täällä Amerikassa yhdessä host perheen kanssa. Tämä onkin varmaan viimeinen postaus jonka kirjoitan täältä Amerikan mantereelta, sillä seuraava tulee luultavasti jo Suomesta. Miksi aika juoksee niin nopeasti...

300 Days in America

Yep, today it is. 300 days since I left my home country and said good byes to my family with tears in my eyes. Well, now in just few days it's gonna happen again when I'm going to say good bye to my friends and Colorado, and again in 15 days when I will say the final good byes to my host family at the Washington DC airport. The time has gone past so fast, and especially the past few weeks have been filled with stuff.

So first of all there was Faith's 9th birthday with the Frozen theme, and everyone dressed up as a character from the movie. Faith was pretty happy about how her party turned out and lucky for me, I got to be a princess/queen for one night :D

Week after that on Thursday we had senior bonfire at the school's parking lot and on Friday was the last day of school for all the seniors, when we checked out, picked up our cap and gowns, painted our hand prints on the wall, and had our last ever assembly.

The week after that we didn't have school anymore, but on Thursday we had graduation rehearsal, which was 10 minutes long because it started lighting right on top of us, and the senior honors night, where Isabella and I were so honored to be not honored :)

On Friday we had our Graduation, which was an amazing experience. I got to walk with the class, I got  a cool certificate and they even called my name almost right :) After the Graduation my host family took me out for a lunch and later that night I had my own surprise graduation party, meaning that I made my own cake and went to he garage, and when I came out my host family yelled "Surprise!":) Since my Swiss brother didn't have a graduation, we also had his graduation at home that night, too. :)

That weekend we went to the Garden of the Gods with my host family. It was a great day with some beautiful views!

On Monday I said good bye to my amazing Swiss Brother since I won't see him again in the USA anymore, and head out to the mountains with my friends, for a five hour road trip to Megan's cabin. It was the only, the first, and absolutely the best road trip in US I've had. We stayed at the cabin for two nights, and it was just amazing. We played capture of the flag a.k.a capture of the swag a.k.a The Hunger Games in real life, I tried archery for the first time in my life, ate one of the best s'mores I've ever had while watching the beautiful night sky filled with stars, had the best ice cream ever, and spent the best few days with the best friends ever.

On Wednesday when I came back to the city, I packed the rest of my stuff, said good bye to my American home and moved to Castle Rock to stay with my Area rep and her family for a week and a half before I'll fly to Washington DC and Virginia to spend my last week in America. The first night in Castle Rock I actually slept over at Emma's house, and on Thursday we went with her host mom and host brother to Mt. Evans, one of the fourteeners in Colorado. Sadly we didn't get all the way to the top, but up to about 13,000ft., which was pretty nice too.
On Saturday was Emma's going away party, and on Sunday morning while we went hiking, she flew back to Sweden.

On Monday, which is today, we had a picnic with some of my friends and planned the rest few days we have together. Tomorrows plan is to go to the Elitch Gardens, which is an amusement and water park up in Denver. On Friday we are leaving for my first camping trip ever with my area rep and her family, coming back on Sunday, when I have my last YFU orientation, and on Monday night I'm flying to the east coast for a week before flying back to Finland. So, a lot has been going on here in Colorado and gladly I have few more days to go. Sorry Finland, but this girl is not ready to come back yet…

40 päivää jäljellä

Tässä seuraa taas kuulumisia täältä Amerikan mantereelta. Tosiaan vaihtovuoden loppu lähenee hurjaa vauhtia, 40 päivää jäljellä täällä USAssa, ja viikko vähemmän täällä Coloradossa. Olen siis menossa hostperheen kanssa Virginiaan ja Washington DChin viimeiseksi viikoksi. Kahtena viimeisenä maanantaina mulle on tullut pieni paniikki siitä, että kohta on kotiin paluun aika. Vaikka mulla on kova ikävä perhettä siellä Suomessa, niin se ajatus siitä että tämän koko elämän, jonka täällä perusti nollasta, joutuu jättämään taakse, tuntuu haikeelta. Omalla tavallaan myös takaisin Suomeen palaaminen tuntuu oudolta, sillä  Heidi joka lähti Suomesta lähes 10 kuukautta sitten, ei ole enään se sama Heidi. Kaikki kokemukset täällä on kasvattanut mua hurjasti, ja onhan sitä myös jo vuoden vanhempi. Vaikka ainahan sitä sanotaan, että mikään ei ole muuttunut koto Suomessa, kun tulee takaisin, mutta kaikki tulee tuntumaan erilaiselta koska itse on muuttunut.

Mutta kaiken tuon syvällisen pohdiskelun jälkeen takaisin kuulumisiin:)

Toissa viikonloppuna mentiin Saran luoksen ja vietettiin iltaa ulkona nuotion edessä jutellen ja tehden s'moresja. Oli aivan ihanaa, mutta sen jälkeen vaatteet haisi vahvasti savulta vielä seuraavana päivänäkin.

Sinä viikonloppuna päätettiin myös Makaylan kanssa leipoa kakku ihan huvin vuoksi. Joku kuitenkin meni hieman vikaan niitä neljää kerrosta kootessa, eikä kuorruksen koostumus ollutkaan ihan sitä mitä me ajateltiin… Maistui kuitenkin tosi hyvälle :D

Viimeviikolla käveltiin Isabellan(Itävalta) kanssa hypärin aikana Starbucksiin ja takaisin. Meistä on tullut tosi hyviä kavereita ja viimeisen kuukauden aikana meistä on tullut paljon läheisempiä kun oltiin aikaisemmin. Ollaan jo suunniteltu, että nähdään jossain vaiheessa Itävallassa ja mennään sitten yhdessä lasketelemaan Alpeille. Sitä odotellessa… :D

Viime lauantaina oli viimeinen YFUn orientaatio, jossa puhuttiin juuri kotiin palaamisesta yms. ja saatiin YFU Coloradon vuosikirjat, joihin kaikki sitten kirjoitti jotain kivaa siitä, jonka vuosikirja se oli. Tämä oli myös viimeinen kerta jolloin nähtiin toisemme ennen kotiin lähtöä. Haikein tunnelmin sanottiin heipat ja otettiin paljon kuivia. Onneksi tulen varmasti näkemään osaa vielä tulevaisuudessakin, ja ainakaan Tea ei pääse musta varmaan koskaan eroon, sillä Suomessakaan ei asuta varmaan kuin 20 min päässä toisistamme :)

Minä ja Wan Waan(Thaimaa)

Sunnuntaina oli aivan järjettömän hieno sää ja tosi lämmintä, joten päädyttiin pelamaan vesisotaa kahteen kertaan. Ensimmäisen kerran pelattiin aamupäivällä, ja sen jälkeen oltiin ihan litimärkiä :) Muut jostain syystä luovuttivat ennen kuin mä olin valmis, ja mulla oli vielä kulhollinen vettä jäljellä, niin päädyin sitten kaatamaan sen itteni päälle :D Pelattiin vielä toisen kerran illalla kun alkoi hämäärtymään, mutta sillä kertaa en halunnu enää kastua läpimäräksi, niin pistin sadevaatteet päälle. Tosin eipä ne kauheesti auttaneet, kun sveitsiläinen veli kaatoi kolme ämpärillistä vettä päälle… Host äitikin innostui mukaan kermavaahdolla kuorrutetun lautasen kanssa, jolla se sitte läimäisi mua naamaan. No tiettyhän mä sitten hain kanssa kermavaahto ja heitin sen sveitsiläistä veljeä päin, josta syntyi sitten vesisodan sijaan kermavaahto sota. Oli kyllä yksi hauskimmista päivistä pitkään aikaan :D :D

Tämä viikko on ollut aika normaali ja loppu kokeet on jo ensi viikolla. Tänä perjantaina hostsisko Faith täyttää 9 vuotta ja sille pidetään Frozen-teemaiset synttärit, johon koko perhe on sitten pakotettu pukeutumaan. Mun hahmo tulee olemaan Elsa, että naamiaset on siis luvassa…
